The Full Official Timeline: From State of Unreal 2026 to Deprecation
The main lesson gave you the short version of the timeline; this is the long one. Every row carries a source and a confidence label, sorted into three tiers: already happened, promised but not delivered, not yet announced. At the end there's a list of claims that sound official and aren't — worth reading before you repeat any of this to a colleague or put it in a project proposal.
1. Three Tiers of Confidence
Nine tenths of the shouting about UE6 comes from mixing three different kinds of information together. This site uses the same three tiers everywhere, so learn the definitions before reading the table:
| Label | Meaning | What you can do with it |
|---|---|---|
| Already happened | Done and verifiable. The version shipped, the announcement went out, the language is live. | Safe to plan around and put in a proposal |
| Promised, not delivered | Epic has stated it publicly, but the thing isn't in your hands. Target dates can move; details may not match what you pictured. | Use it to set direction, never to set a schedule |
| Not yet announced | Epic hasn't said it. Community discussion, press speculation and options in a research survey all land here. | Stay curious. Don't put it in any document. |
One quick test: if a sentence contains an exact year plus a definite action — "Epic will delete Blueprints in 20XX" — and you can't find the same sentence in an official channel, it belongs to the third tier. As of the time of writing (August 2026), Epic has never announced any date for Blueprints being removed.
2. The Full Timeline
Grouped by confidence, ordered by time within each group. The "source" column names where the information originally came from, not some second-hand article.
Already happened
| When | Event | Source | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| March 2023 | Verse ships alongside UEFN and starts carrying production gameplay scripting on Fortnite islands | Epic (UEFN launch) | Already happened |
| 2023 | Verse's formal core (the Verse Calculus) is published as an academic paper, with authors including Tim Sweeney and Simon Peyton Jones | ICFP 2023 paper | Already happened |
| 2026 | State of Unreal (Chicago) announces Unreal Engine 6: UE5 and UEFN will merge into one unified engine | Epic, "The road to Unreal Engine 6" | Already happened |
| 2026 | Unreal Engine 5.8 ships and is positioned by Epic as the current stable production target | Epic official | Already happened |
| 2026 | Scene Graph revealed: UE6's new gameplay framework, built from scratch on Verse using an entity + component model | Epic official | Already happened (the announcement; the framework is still in development) |
| 2026 | Epic announces that the UE6 editor will integrate generative AI assistants such as Claude and Gemini | State of Unreal 2026 | Already happened (the announcement; delivery comes with UE6) |
Promised, not delivered
| When | What was promised | Source | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roughly two years | UE5 and UEFN merge into a single product, Unreal Engine 6 | Epic, "The road to Unreal Engine 6" | Promised, in progress |
| Targeted end of 2027 | UE6 Early Access release | Epic, "The road to Unreal Engine 6" | Promised — note this is a target, not a ship date |
| From UE6 EA | Actors and Blueprints are fully supported in UE6 Early Access and the early releases | Epic official | Promised |
| Conditional, no date | Actors and Blueprints are deprecated only once the new framework (Scene Graph) is sufficiently mature | Epic official | Promised — the trigger is "maturity", not a version number |
| Before deprecation | Conversion tools to move projects from the old framework to the new one | Epic official | Promised, not yet released |
| — | Verse will get its own visual scripting layer | Epic has indicated this (including via creator research) | Stated, form not yet announced |
Not yet announced
| Question | What is known | Source | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| When does UE6 fully release (not Early Access)? | Only that EA is targeted for end of 2027; no public date for the full release | — | Not yet announced |
| In which version are Actors and Blueprints marked deprecated? | Only a condition (Scene Graph sufficiently mature). No version number, no year | — | Not yet announced |
| When are Actors and Blueprints removed from the engine? | Epic has given no time at all; historically, "deprecated" to "removed" has spanned many versions | — | Not yet announced |
| How much will the conversion tools cover, and when do we get them? | Only that they will exist. Coverage, form and release date are all unannounced | — | Not yet announced |
| Is the visual layer node-based or block-based? | Epic's creator research has described both a Blueprint-like node approach and a Scratch-like block approach, which means opinions are still being collected | Epic research survey / community reports | Not yet announced |
| What is the visual layer called? | "Visual Verse" is a community label, not a confirmed product name | Community | Not yet announced |
| What happens to Animation Blueprint, Widget Blueprint and friends? | Public discussion has centered on Actor Blueprints and Scene Graph; these subsystems have no separate statement | — | Not yet announced |
| When can Verse be used for production on the UE5 mainline? | Verse's production environment today is UEFN; no date has been given for UE5-side production use | Epic | Not yet announced |
3. Claims That Sound Official and Aren't
The following go around the community constantly, and every one of them is at least half wrong. If you hear one in a meeting, this section is your ammunition.
- "UE6 is deleting Blueprints." — Wrong twice. First, Epic said deprecated, not deleted, and deprecation waits for Scene Graph to be sufficiently mature. Second, Actors and Blueprints are fully supported in UE6 Early Access and the early releases. Epic has never announced a removal date.
- "UE6 ships at the end of 2027." — End of 2027 is the target for Early Access. Early Access is not the full release, and a target is not a ship date. The full release date has not been announced.
- "Epic promised conversion tools, so migration will be automatic." — "There will be tools" is the promise; "how automatic" has not been announced. Historical experience (see the second extra of this lesson) says conversion tools carry structure, not design intent.
- "Visual Verse will be Scratch-style blocks." — That was one direction that appeared in research, not a decision. The form has not been announced.
- "Verse isn't mature yet; wait until it stabilizes." — Verse has been running in UEFN production since March 2023. It is not an experiment. It isn't used for production on the UE5 mainline yet, but that is a question of integration scope, not language maturity.
A rule of thumb worth carrying around: bad news with an exact year attached is almost never something Epic said. Epic's own wording on this topic has been consistently careful — a condition ("once the new framework is sufficiently mature") rather than a date. That choice is itself information.
4. Quick Quiz
A colleague says: "Epic officially announced UE6 ships end of 2027, and Blueprints are gone." How many corrections does that sentence need?

This table is compiled from Epic's public statements: The road to Unreal Engine 6 (Epic official) ↗ · State of Unreal 2026: Top news from the show (Epic official) ↗. Rows marked "not yet announced" mean Epic had made no public statement as of the time of writing (August 2026); if there is a newer announcement by the time you read this, the official word wins.
